:star::star: THE PROJECT IS NOW CLOSED :star::star:

CHECK OUT THE COMPLETE COMPILATION HERE

:star: INTRODUCTION

I don't know about you, but the uglier my old drawings seem to appear to me, the prouder I am. My old junks make up a large part of the motivation that keeps me drawing and through experience, I already know how important motivation is when it comes to anything in life; especially in art.

Given these circumstances, I thus present you my project: "Quest for Improvement."

:star: THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

Quest for Improvement by Lukiih

:star: YOUR TURN

Inspire those that watch and admire you by making your own "Throughout the years" comparisons in your journal or submit it as a deviation! Link back to Lukiih's journal (to help spread the word) and note me to inform me you haved joined the "Quest for Improvement" project.

:star: GOAL

I hope to compile and feature a large collection of links that lead to a great variety of motivating and inspiring improvements that have taken place both inside and outside DA.

Thank you for reading and remember:

"Once you're through with improving...you're through."
-Proverb

haha I'm going to try this, but since it closed, I'll just comment instead of note ^^; This is a really great idea. It means it must dig out all the horrible drawings that I've hidden. O.o

Inspirational project! :wow:

Aww damn..it's over :(

Still, I've also embarked on my own version of it 2 months ago, except with a different name ;3

The improvements you made were immense, just in case the other 1000 comments haven't told you yet and this has convinced me art is just practice, not talent. Keep up the good work! :D

"art is just practice, not talent."

wise words!!
I've spent a long time trying to convince my friends, as well as myself of such a fact. Yes, some people are better at manual things than others, just as some have more controlled and refined hand gestures than others. But, at the end of the day, anyone can be an amazing artist with a lot of dedication and passion.
There is no such thing is talent... :P

I'm surprised you have to convince yourself that art is practice, not talent.
Your vast improvement is a shining example of that quote XD

Yeah, but you always have doubts with your own art, I guess...
plus I just did this improvement thing recently. ^^

thank you for the comment! : D have you done your own improvement challenge?

No problem ^^

Well, yeah actually; albeit on a smaller scale.
I began in late 2007: [link]
Early 2009: [link]
Late 2009: [link]

And you're right, I guess there's always room for improvement in one's art :D

Wow, I can defiantly see an improvement in your art as well, congrats! :D

well, it's how that old quote goes... a piece of art is never finished, only abandoned. Same goes for improving, I suppose.

Wow! You've improved so much! I've been drawing for years but I can definitely see improvement. I might form my own personal Quest for Improvement when my scanner decides to work. 8D

Gosh... your art is gorgeous. I especially love the second one in the 2003 vs. 2005 column. I love those colours and I think you've done a great job on all of your pieces!

Hey. I know that I'm about 6 months late in replying, but if you're still interested...I was about 14 in 2003. ^_^ HOWEVER, my biggest "growth spurt" was when I turn 16. =)

You have some great work going for you.
I very much want to try this.....
A two quick question for you:
-Do you draw every day?
-How many hours?

I like the proverb:
"Once you're through with improving...you're through (or dead)."

Hey there. Thanks a bunch for the comment. x3

No, actually, I'm one of those "artists" who hardly ever draws. I finish a piece roughly every 3-5 months, depending on school. x__O Heheh.
And um...I usually take 2-6 hours a piece. :)
